  1. Click the Connect button.
  2. Click in the circle next to "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or a local area network (LAN)...." then click Next.
  3. Click in the circle next to "Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or a local area network (LAN)" then click Next.
  4. Click in the circle next to "Connect using my phone line." then click Next.
  5. Select your modem and make sure it is displayed in the box. Click Next.
  6. If this is your first time setting up your computer to connect to Switch Online, or you are setting it back up after a disaster, click in the circle next to "Create a new dialup connection". If you are simply modifying some settings, choose "Use an existing dialup connection" then click Next.
  7. Uncheck the box next to "Dial using the area code and country code"
  8. Enter the phone number of the POP that is local to you. For a list of numbers, click here. If you are in Maryland, be sure to include the area code with the phone number. Click Next.
  9. Type in your User name: and Password:, Please Note: You must add @switchol.com to your username. Your username should now read like an email address, with all lowercase letters and no spaces.
  10. When asked "Do you want to change the advanced settings for this connection?" click "YES" then click NEXT.
  11. Click in the circle next to "PPP" then click Next.
  12. Click in the circle next to "I don't need to type anything when logging on" then click Next.
  13. Click in the circle next to "My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one." then click Next.
  14. Click in the circle next to "Always use the following". In the DNS server box type 12.26.83.2 and leave the Alternate DNS server box EMPTY, then click Next.
  15. Click Next again.
  16. When asked to set up your internet mail account, click in the circle next to "Yes" then click Next.
  17. Click in the circle next to "Create a new Internet mail account" then click Next.
  18. Enter your Real Name in the box, then click Next.
  19. Enter your email address (i.e. user@switchol.com), then click Next.
  20. Select "POP3" for the server type.
  21. Enter the mail server addresses, then click Next.

    Switch Online Mail Servers: mail.switchol.com smtp.switchol.com

  22. Click in the circle next to "Log on using", fill in your username and your password then click Next.
  23. Click Next.
  24. Click in the circle next to "No" for the Internet news account then click Next.
  25. Click in the circle next to "No" for the Internet directory service then click Next.
  26. Click Finish and you have set up your Windows 98 machine for Switch Online!
